Thanksgiving was the holiday that my father's side of the family gathered together at our house. My dad was the youngest of eight children, so with all my aunts, uncles and cousins it could be a very large group. Our house was next to large pecan orchard. After a huge lunch, we used to go out and pick up pecans. When we finished with the pecans, my Aunt Ruth would take charge of making eggnog. That eggnog wasn't like the kind bought in the stores. It was very "fluffy" (from the whipped eggwhites) and she added a liberal amount of bourbon. We would sprinkle nutmeg on top.
I found a couple of photos of the pecan orchard, but not of us picking up pecans.
